Comets sweep men’s basketball season series with Albemarle

After needing overtime earlier this season to win over Albemarle, the North Stanly men made it a clean sweep of the season series Friday night with a lopsided win over the Bulldogs, 85-59.

Dyson Bell led four in double figures for North (9-7, 6-3 YVC) with 19 points including a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line.

Clay Hatley added 16 points for the Comets, nine coming in the first half, while Koby Poole scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half.

Chamar Watkins scored eight of his 10 points for North in the first quarter.

M.J. Raye led Albemarle (6-11, 4-6) and all scorers with 24 points while Ali Currie added 16 and Camarie McNeil scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.

North extended its lead in the first quarter by outscoring Albemarle by 21 points to lead at halftime, 45-16.

The Comets travel to North Rowan (11-5, 9-1) Tuesday night while Albemarle goes to North Moore (4-12, 2-6).
