Friday afternoon, the Pfeiffer athletic website, gofalconsports.com, emailed a statement from the university to The Stanly News & Press regarding games and the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

Below is the text of that statement:

Due to the ongoing spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), with the safety and well-being of students and campus communities being paramount, the President’s Council of the USA South Athletic Conference has unanimously decided to cancel all remaining regular season, including non-conference contests, and tournament competition in all sports for all League members, effective Monday, March 16.

With the decision of the President’s Council of the USA South Athletic Conference, Pfeiffer University will cease all athletic activities for the Spring semester. In early April, the decision to cease all athletic activities for the Spring semester will be reassessed to determine if non-competition athletic activities may resume.

Although Pfeiffer University and the Conference acknowledge the disappointment this decision creates for our student-athletes, families, and fans, it keeps the safety of those individuals and their communities at the forefront.
