The Stanly County Board of Commissioners have approved a resolution accepting a loan from the state for the West Stanly Wastewater Treatment project.

Voting unanimously, the board approved accepting a state revolving loan agreement with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) for the construction of an upgrade in the amount of $7.2 million.

The project will upgrade the ability of the plant to process 1.2 million gallons of wastewater per day which, according to Utilities Director Duane Wingo, “is necessary to accommodate further residential, commercial and industrial development in the West Stanly sewer district service area as well as adhering to NCDEQ regulations pertaining on the West Stanly Wastewater Treatment Plant’s discharge permit.”

It is a 20-year loan with 0 percent interest.
