A tractor trailer loaded down with gardening supplies overturned Monday afternoon just outside Oakboro on N.C. Hay. 138.

The truck from Oldcastle Lawn and Garden had many bags of potting soil, according to North Carolina State Trooper Whit Efird, and was heading to Hillford Road.

According to Efird, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the back wheels came off the right side of the road and pulled the whole tractor trailer into the ditch about 15 to 20 feet just past the railroad tracks crossing Hwy. 138. The curve near those tracks has been the spot of numerous vehicle accidents in the past, Efird said.

Members of the state’s Department of Transportation and Rogers Towing worked on getting the truck out of the ditch with work going well into the evening.

The driver did not sustain injury, and speed was not a factor in the incident, Efird said. The only charge was a minor traffic charge for failure to maintain lane control.

When the incident happened, traffic was closed down on Hwy. 138 for the rest of the day. Efird said the road should be open by Tuesday morning, well in time for the morning commute.
