Stanly basketball teams qualify for state playoffs

Three Stanly County high school basketball teams will continue to play this week in the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state playoffs.
2A Men
The West Stanly Colts, coming off the team’s win versus Forest Hills Friday for the top Rocky River Conference seed, is a No. 8 seed in the Western Region.
West Stanly will host No. 9 Atkins (12-1) Tuesday night. The Camels were the 2A Western Piedmont conference champions and enter the playoffs on a seven-game win streak.
The winner of Tuesday’s game plays either No. 1 Hendersonville (12-0) or No. 16 Ledford Senior (8-3) Thursday.
1A Men
North Stanly, by virtue of winning the Yadkin Valley Conference crown, earned a home game Tuesday as the No. 8 seed in the Western Region.
The Comets (11-2) host the Pine Lakes Prep Pride (14-1) Tuesday night. The Pride won the PAC 7 Conference title and enter the playoffs on a 10-game win streak.
North Stanly has won 11 games in a row and not lost since a buzzer-beater non-conference loss to Forest Hills.
The winner of the game plays either No. 1 Mitchell (8-5) or No. 16 Research Triangle (7-4).
1A Women
The North Stanly Comets earned an at-large bid into the state playoffs after finishing third in the Yadkin Valley Conference at 6-2 (7-3 overall).
North is a No. 14 seed and travels to No. 3 Hiwassee Dam (8-4, 5-1) who won the Little Smoky Mount Conference title.
The winner will play either No. 6 Mitchell (13-0) or No. 11 Mountain Island Charter (9-2).
