Oakboro District Park has hosted competitions over the years, but an event June 4 will bring a new sizzle to town.

The Oakboro Steak Shootout will bring competitors of the Steak Cookoff Association to western Stanly to compete for cash prizes and a spot in the national competition in Fort Worth, Texas.

Cooks can win up to $1,000 for the best steak, with prizes for first through 10th place. Competitions for appetizers, desserts and a kids’ pork chop contest will also take place.

Proceeds raised by the town will go to charity.

Participants can register online at www.steakcookoffs.com.
