While some people were wanting Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” more were probably thinking of the song title “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” over the Christmas weekend.

Based on data for the Albemarle Stanly County Airport, the temperature for the morning of Dec. 24 was 9 degrees, breaking the record of 12 degrees set in 1930, according to Nick Petro, a warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Raleigh.

The minimum high of 28 degrees on Christmas Eve also set a record, narrowly clipping the record of 29 degrees set in 1989.

Petro reports the lows of 10 degrees and 12 degrees on the mornings of Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, respectively, did not break the records of 2 degrees and 3 degrees set in 1983.

The record minimum highs for Dec. 25 and 26 recorded in 1983, at 22 and 29 degrees, respectively, were not broken either.

As with this year, Petro did not have any snow associated with the weather system of 1983.
