The Yadkin Valley Conference outdoor track and field championships took place May 1 at Mount Pleasant.

The Albemarle women’s track team won the meet with 156 team points. Union Academy took second with 136 points, followed by Robinson (100), North Stanly (78), Gray Stone (69), Mount Pleasant (61) and South Stanly (26).

Albemarle’s Akela Garrett posted first-place finishes in the 200 meters (25.10 seconds), the 100-meter hurdles (13.76 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (41.35 seconds).

Amari Baldwin earned first-place finishes for the Bulldogs in the 100-meter dash (12.72 seconds) and the triple jump (34-foot-8), and a second-place in the 200-meters (26.77 seconds).

Mary Grace Krol also gave the Bulldogs a first-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.73.

Albemarle also posted wins in the 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m relay teams.

In field events, Jasmine Brown took first place in the shotput and discus.
