South Stanly men’s golf team qualifies for state finals

The South Stanly men’s golf team, winners of the Yadkin Valley Conference, played this week at the 1A Midwest Regional Golf Tournament at Thomasville’s Colonial Country Club.

South Stanly rallied from being +30 as a team through seven holes, posting nine birdies and an eagle to earn runners-up and a spot in the 1A state tourney next week.

The Bulls finished 16 shots behind the regional champs from South Stokes.

Individually, Reid Smith and Luke Dennis tied for fifth with +8 rounds of 79 each. Luke Webb finished tied for ninth overall with an 80 while Dustin Hurley shot an 82, finishing tied for 12th. Davis Wright finished tied for 15th for the Bulls and qualified to compete in the state finals as well.

Pinehurst No. 6 will host the 1A state finals tournament Monday.
