The Stanly County Planning and Zoning Board, at its meeting this week, voted to recommend denial of a rezoning request for a property on Ridgecrest Road.

Sam Estridge presented a request to the board to rezone part of a 35.09-acre tract at 24352 Ridgecrest Road be rezoned from county residential/agricultural to a conditional district.

The conditions of the district, for a storage facility, were to include no temporary parking, controlled access 24/7, an eight-foot tall chain link fence surrounding five-foot tall units and an unlit sign.

Stanly’s planning board recommended denying the request, stating reasons included the lot not being in a growth area in the 2024 Stanly County Land Use Plan. The land also sits in the Rural Preservation Area in the future land use designation map.

The matter potentially will go before the Stanly County Board of Commissioners at a future meeting, possibly the upcoming meeting set for May 15.
