West Stanly’s defense of the 2A state championship continued Friday night with a 4-2 road win over McMichael, the top seed in the 2A West.

The Colts (27-1) never trailed in the game, getting a solo home run from Teagan Ritchie in the top of the first inning.

McMichael (27-1) rallied with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, but West got the lead back in the third on a Lily Huneycutt RBI single to right.

West added two runs in the fifth with two outs on an error to help seal the win.

Huneycutt struck out six and allowed two earned runs on six hits to pick up the win for West, the team’s 27th in a row.

West Stanly, the number-four seed, takes on No. 3 West Wilkes in the best-of-three 2A Western Regional Series. Game one is Tuesday at West Wilkes, with the two teams coming to Oakboro Thursday. If necessary, a deciding third game would be Friday at West Wilkes.
