The Uwharrie Wampus Cats’ four-game home stand continued Thursday night when the Cats hosted the Red Springs Air Force.

Uwharrie got the team’s first-ever home run in the game, but Red Springs earned the win over the Wampus Cats, 5-2.

B.J. Williams delivered a two-run shot to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning, which broke a string of 16 innings Uwharrie (1-2) had gone scoreless dating back to Monday’s home opener.

Red Springs took the lead in the top of the first with a bases-loaded walk and added an unearned run in the second. An RBI single, another bases-loaded walk and a hit batter with the bases loaded added three runs for the visitors in the sixth.

Josh Barham led Uwharrie with two hits while Aiden Wilson added a double in the game for the Cats.

Seven pitchers took the mound for the Wampus Cats in the game, with JD Lewis taking the loss in two innings of work. Uwharrie’s pitching staff struck out 15 batters but walked 10 in the loss.
