The agenda of Tuesday’s Stanly County Board of Adjustments meeting includes two items regarding a proposed new group care facility.

The Blanchard Institute, which operates a drug rehab and detox center in Charlotte, has asked the board for a special use permit to operate a facility on 42912 Vickers Store Road.

The board will also consider a variance which will permit the facility to operate with 16 residents instead of the required minimum of 20.

According to the group’s website, The Blanchard Institute operates “award-winning substance abuse and mental health treatment” facilities in Charlotte and Cornelius.

Judy Goodwin, the community relations director for The Blanchard Institute, said the company has not purchased the property. She would not comment on the company’s plans for the facility.

The Stanly County Board of Adjustment will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gene McIntyre Room at Stanly Commons.
