Tickets went on sale Friday for Dinner on Main, the annual event that brings residents together for an outside meal in the heart of Albemarle.

The event will be 7-10 p.m. Sept 16 at the intersection of Second and West Main streets.

Connie Eckman is organizer of the event, partnering with the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce for the second consecutive year.

Eckman said Sodexo at Pfeiffer University will the primary caterer for the meal. Chamber members will also contribute dishes, with some already announced such as Albemarle Sweet Shop for individual pies and bread, Second Street Sundries for doughnuts and Dickey’s Barbecue Pit for a meat. Other businesses and farms are expected to join the list.

“It’s exciting when businesses in our community want to be involved,” Eckman said. “Both Armadillo Axe Throwing and The Tomahawk Throwing Range have graciously allowed our diners use of their restrooms during the event and an additional discount to throw axes should they want to remain downtown after dinner.”

Roads will be closed from 4-11 p.m. They include Second Street to King Street to North Street and West Main Street from Third Street to First Street.

Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Stanly County Chamber. The meal includes appetizers, salads, at least two local meats and dessert. Beer and wine are also available with a ticket.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with various beneficiaries over the years, one of my favorites being the Stanly County Historical Society,” Eckman said. “It eventually became easier in terms of consistency to invite the Chamber of Commerce to be involved. I think Dinner on Main is a generous display of local businesses and what better group to help promote these businesses.”
