Unemployment rate holds for Stanly

Stanly County’s unemployment rate remained steady at 3.2% from June to July, according to the latest figures released Aug. 30 by the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The county also remained 15th lowest for unemployment in the state.

There were 30,596 record in the county’s workforce and 996 among the unemployed.

Unemployment rates decreased in 39 of the state’s counties last month, increased in 27 and were unchanged in 34.

Scotland County once again had the highest unemployment rate at 6.7%, up from 6.4% in June.

Swain remained at 2.7% to stay the lowest in the state.

All of the state’s 15 metro areas experienced rate decreases, with Rocky Mount the highest rate at 5.2% and Asheville the lowest at 2.9%, both unchanged from the month prior.
