Fans of Oakboro Police’s K-9s may have to wait a little longer to read about the adventures of Joker, Bane and their handler.

Oakboro K-9 Sgt. J.S. Eschert said the children’s book, “K9 Joker,” has been published, but it is already sold out on Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s websites.

“Due to the demand and also wanting to make it available to public schools and libraries, we are moving forward with a hardcover edition as well,” Eschert said.

Eschert is working with the publisher to get the book back available on these sites. He has also put in a personal order to sell books locally.

“The proceeds after the cost to make the book and royalties are paid to those involved will go to the Oakboro Police Department K-9 Fund,” Eschert said. “These funds go towards K-9 training, conferences, equipment, uniform needs, supplies and care.”

The book was dedicated to former Oakboro mayor Joyce Little. It also pays tribute to others in law enforcement and first responders.

Retired from patrol work, Joker has now transitioned into a community K-9.
