At Monday’s meeting of the Stanly County Economic Development Commission, Stanly Community College President Dr. John Enamait gave a report to the board on the college.

Enamait said he and the college staff “see no reason” SCC’s new trades facility “won’t be completed by late March or early April.” He said a little supply chain issue for the water line, which “is complementary to the trades facility,” happened, but added, “we don’t expect that to be a problem.”

He also noted Stanly Community College was one of “the few institutions of higher learning” in the state which are designated by the National Security Agency as a center for academic excellence.

“A lot of work went into receiving that designation, but graduates of SCC’s cybersecurity program are graduating from an NSA validated program,” Enamait said.

Regarding the $8.5 million received in this year’s state budget for a new Basic Law Enforcement Training facility (BLET), Enamait said there has been “public discussion” about where it would be located.

He said the location for the BLET facility would be discussed at the November meeting of SCC’s Board of Trustees, but the recommendation from the college would be for it to be in Locust.

“I feel confident that’s where it’ll be, but the board has to take a formal action,” Enamait said. “I don’t expect it to go anywhere else.”
