West Stanly cross-country teams qualify for state meet

The West Stanly cross-country teams swept the individual top honors and both qualified for the state meet with their respective finishes at the 2023 2A Midwest Regionals last weekend.

Women’s Results

Sophomore Kelsey Burleson claimed individual medalist honors taking first place with a 19:34.23, more than a minute past the second place finisher, teammate McKenzie Clontz (20:42.70).

Talua Best (11th-22:06.36), Caroline White (28th-24:03.57) and Madelyn Smith (31st-24:20.43) rounded out the top five for the Colts.

West finished in second place with 64 points behind regional champion East Davidson (50).

Men’s Results

Carson Wells earned the top spot overall for West Stanly with his time of 16:17.74, beating Surry Central’s Ignacio Morales by just under eight seconds.

Tyler Chen was second for West and 14th overall in 18:28.46, followed on the Colts by Jayden Bobo (28th-19:14.24), Luke Eddy (30th-19:19.69) and Jaden Horn (46th-19:45.75).

West Stanly finished fourth overall in the team standings with 115 points. East Davidson claimed the regional title with 71 points, followed by state qualifiers, West Stokes (80) and Forbush (114).

This Saturday is the 2A state championships at the Ivey Redmon Complex in Kernersville.
