HIGHWAY PATROL: Impaired driver faces death by vehicle, other charges after fatality

A vehicle wreck Thanksgiving afternoon left one person dead and two sent to hospitals.

According to N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Adam Bost, Cordaleor Tyshady Huntley, 36, of Oakboro, the driver of a Toyota passenger car traveling west on Griffin Green Boulevard and Buster Road, west of Oakboro, failed to yield for a stop sign. The incident was first reported at 1:57 p.m.

The Toyota collided with a Jeep Liberty traveling south on Buster driven by Pamela Carol Carrick, 53, of Mount Gilead. She was ejected from her vehicle and died.

A passenger in the Jeep was airlifted to CMC-Main in Charlotte, while Huntley was taken by ambulance to CMC-Northeast in Concord.

Both drivers of the vehicles were not wearing their seat belts, Bost said. After impact both vehicles struck trees nearby.

Huntley has been charged with driving while impaired, death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, fail to stop at a stop sign and and no seat belt.

Investigators are awaiting results on alcohol level for Huntley, Bost said, and the investigation is ongoing.
