Mount Gilead woman charged in crash at Locust Bojangles

One person was taken to the Stanly County Jail after a traffic incident Monday at the Bojangles in Locust.

Lela Nichols of Mount Gilead was arrested on several charges in relation to a traffic crash.

According to Police Chief Jeff Shew, Locust officers responded to a medical call related to the crash at approximately 6:35 p.m.

When officers arrived, Nichols was found unconscious in the Bojangles’ parking lot with her vehicle having struck two other parked vehicles.

West Stanly Fire Department and the Stanly County EMS responded to the call to evaluate Nichols and others involved. Nichols refused treatment, and one other individual was taken to Atrium Health Stanly with minor injuries.

Nichols was charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, driving while license revoked and possession of a revoked driver’s license. Nichols was booked into Stanly County Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
