A traffic incident Friday morning in the Oakboro area left one person dead and sent two others to a hospital.

According to Sgt. Adam Bost of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident happened at 7:42 a.m. on Liberty Hill Church Road.

The first vehicle, a black Toyota Tacoma truck, was traveling south, while the second vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla, was heading north. The truck crossed the center line and hit the Corolla head on, Bost said. The truck came to rest facing south in the northbound line, while the Corolla stopped partly in the ditch.

The operator of the Corolla was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Atrium Health CMC by Medical Center Air, while a 4-year-old juvenile was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the truck was taken to Atrium Health in Concord with injuries.

As of Friday afternoon, the names had not been released because of an ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed, and it has not been released yet whether speed or alcohol were factors in the incident.
