South Stanly’s men’s basketball team is having one of the most successful in the program’s history.

The Bulls are 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the 1A/2A Yadkin Valley Conference. South is ranked fifth in the 1A West rankings by MaxPreps.

The Bulls are 4-0 in the YVC and only have non-conference losses to Corvian Community and Southwestern Randolph this season.

South opened the season with nine wins a row and is currently on a four-game win streak, including a 65-63 win last week at No. 15-ranked North Rowan. In the win against the Cavaliers, Gavyn Miller led South with 28 points while Drew Gaddy added 14 and Cohen Whitley had 12.

“This group is very comfortable with each other,” head coach Sean Whitley said. “They’ve developed together over the past couple of years and it’s paying off so far this season. While Gavyn, Cohen and Drew have carried the load on offense most nights, we’ve had tremendous effort on the boards and on the defensive end from Jaxon and Keith. Ethan Gaddy and Carter Callicutt are giving us good minutes off of the bench as well. I feel we are a much better defensive team this year as well. That’s been key in several of our close games.”

This week, South hosts Gray Stone and Albemarle on Tuesday and Friday, respectively, with a non-conference home game Wednesday against West Davidson as well.
