One of the county’s oldest restaurants is for sale.

Harmanco’s Family Restaurant, located on East Main Street in Albemarle next to Fairview Cemetery, is for sale for $1.2 million.

The restaurant is listed for sale with Glen Alford Realty of Albemarle.

Alford said the lease between the current owner and former owner had a clause allowing for the option to buy or sell the business within the first five years of ownership. The lease began in late 2019. Both parties have decided to sell, he said.

The full listing can be viewed at https://www.glenalfordrealty.com/FeaturedListings. The purchase price includes the building and contents of Harmanco’s, including seating for 160 inside and 35 on the patio. The building also includes a separate space that “can be leased brick and mortar office or retail.”

The new owner would be just one of a handful in the restaurant’s nearly 80-year history. The Limers bought the business in 2019 from the Kambourises, who owned it for 11 years prior under the name Harmanco’s. The menu changed to home-cooking from the Kambouris’ Greek-based items. Prior to that, the restaurant leaned to a Cajun flavor under the Baudoin family. It originally opened in 1946 and was known for its burgers.
