At Monday’s meeting of the Norwood Town Council, improvements for water service for 19 residents were set into motion.

Town Administrator Scott Howard said homes on Brickyard, Richardson and Dupree roads suffered from low water pressure.

With the residences being outside the city limits, Howard said it was next to impossible to get a grant to fix the water pressure problem. He had reached to Stanly County Manager Andy Lucas regarding help, with the county inquiring about gaining some of the revenue from the water line.

“That’s a reasonable request to me,” Howard said

Councilman Robbie Cohen said he would have initially voted against a motion, but said now he feels the town has an obligation to do something about it because the residents in question are paying bills issued by Norwood at double the regular rates.

Councilman Larry McMahon agreed with Cohen, saying all one has to do to experience the problem is go into one of the affected houses and try to take a shower.

“I guarantee you, that will convince you,” McMahon said.

He said the town promised to fix the situation a long time ago and the residents suffering the problems have to comply with Norwood zoning laws.

Sonny Dunlap, one of the residents affected by the water pressure problem, spoke his concerns to the board in the public comment section before the board discussed the situation later in the meeting.

A motion to start the process of getting bids for the project passed unanimously.
