The Stanly County Economic Development Commission elected new officers unanimously at Monday’s meeting.

Cindy Beane was named chairwoman while Steve Bradley will serve as vice chairman and Greg Underwood as secretary. Beane appointed Larry Baucom and Wes Morgan to serve on the EDC’s Executive Committee.

The EDC also recognized attorney Charles Brown, who was named last Thursday as the chairman for the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority Board. This board awards grants such as the Utility Development Fund.

Upcoming events include a networking event for manufacturing leadership and the EDC board, including a passenger train ride over Badin Lake at Old Whitney.

In the first week of October, the EDC, NCWorks, the Centralina Workforce Development Board and Stanly Community College will have virtual events to celebrate Manufacturing Week. The event is normally done in person, like last year when high school students and their families received a tour of a manufacturing facility and tours of the community college.
