Woman arrested in Norwood after drug bust, charged with death by distribution

On Dec. 7, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division, Criminal Investigations Division and the Norwood Police Department responded to Norwood in reference to an overdose.

Subsequently, a search warrant was conducted by the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, Norwood Police Department and the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team at 254 Summit St.  Investigators seized heroin/fentanyl and paraphernalia during the search.

Christa Michelle Smith, 33, was arrested on Dec. 10 for possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver heroin, maintaining a dwelling for the selling of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, death by distribution of a dangerous controlled substance and second-degree murder.

Smith is being held in the Ralph McSwain Detention Center under a $400,000 secured bond. Her court appearance was to be Dec. 20.
