BADIN NEWS: Prayer Walk happens each Wednesday

Prayer Walk

The community is invited by Pastor Kaye Fry of Stony Hill UMC to gather at Badin Elementary School each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Participants may walk or drive around the block while praying for teachers, students and staff who face new challenges every day. Please observe safe distancing or wear masks. Plans are to continue the prayer walks at least through October.

Badin Baptist

Bible study has resumed at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor B.J. Bowers via Facebook Live. All are welcome to tune in. The congregation is also meeting for 10 a.m. worship services on Sunday at the church, 28 Falls Road.

Badin Library

Library Card Sign-up Month runs through Wednesday. First-time applicants will receive a one-of-a-kind Wonder Woman-themed card for free. Anyone else may request a replacement card for $5. Come take advantage of this special offer for the love of reading.

Stony Hill UMC

Pastor Kaye Fry welcomes everyone to the 9 a.m. outdoor drive-in worship services held Sunday at the church. As weather changes, the time may change. The church is using an FM transmitter, and making the service available through the website and Facebook page.

Bethel and Palestine UMC

The churches offer on-site services at Bethel UMC, 44118 NC Highway 740, New London, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Services will also be broadcast on the Bethel UMC and Palestine UMC Facebook pages.

Community Yard Sale

Everyone is invited to sell and shop at the Better Badin Community Yard Sale on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 noon in the Alcoa parking lot on NC Highway 740. Donations for use of individual spaces may be made to Better Badin, Inc. The organization will also accept and sell donated items with any profit going toward community activity expenses. Stop by the Better Badin tent to make donations or ask questions.

Better Badin’s regular meeting is Oct. 12 at Loafers and Legends.

Town Business

Limb and brush regular pickup is Oct. 6.

Town Council meets Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Conference Center.

Semi-Annual Town Cleanup runs Oct. 12 to noon, Oct. 15. Check Badin.org for more details about what can be put curbside. Items must be separated by categories: metal, general household items, construction debris, rimless tires, dried cans of paint, etc. No household trash, yard waste or items acceptable at the Convenience Center (e.g. cardboard) will be collected.

U.S. census forms are still available online through the town website.

VFD BBQ

The annual Badin Fire Department event on Oct. 10 will be drive-thru only. Pick up pork or chicken plates for $8 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Alcoa parking lot on NC Highway 740 in Badin. Pork by the pound is $8. Delivery may be available for five or more plates ordered before 10:30 a.m. the day of the event. Call 704-422-3614.
