To commemorate unique day, gathering to be held 2/22/22 at YMCA Park

A pretty unique and historical date is fast approaching on the calendar. The 22nd day of February, or 2/22/22, will fall next Tuesday — or rather, Twosday.

Feb. 22, 2022 is a palindrome date, meaning it can be read the same way backward and forward, and it’s one of those odd days, like Oct. 10, 2010 or Jan. 1, 2011, that just sticks in your head.

“I just think it’s really cool and I figured it out maybe two or three weeks ago, all the twos coming together,” said Albemarle resident Annette Starnes.

There will not be another day quite like it for another 200 years, she said, until Feb. 22, 2222.

To commemorate such an odd moment, Starnes is partnering with the Stanly County YMCA to host a social event, called “The Celebration of the Twos,” at YMCA Park from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Y will  plan several activities for people to enjoy, Starnes said, including things like hula hooping, bubble blowing and volleyball.

There will also, fittingly, be a short moment of recognition at 2:22 p.m.

“It’s not going to be a long event, just a nice get-together,” Starnes said.

Starnes also encourages anyone with Feb. 22 birthdays to join the event — especially if they happen to be turning 22.
