Albemarle selects new city manager

Albemarle City Council has selected Todd Clark as its new city manager.
Clark was chosen following a nationwide search and competitive process with assistance from GovHR USA, an executive recruitment service.
Clark brings nearly 34 years of governmental experience.
For the past two years, Clark has served as town manager of Beaufort. Prior experience included nearly 14 years as city manager of Newton. Additional management experience included three years as town manager of Maiden and four years as town manager of Catawba.
“I am grateful to the City Council for entrusting me with the position of city manager,” Clark said. “Albemarle is a growing city with an impeccable reputation. I look forward to working with the council, dedicated city staff and citizens to provide the highest level of service possible.”
“Throughout the search process, City Council recognized Todd Clark’s experience and proven leadership as exemplary. We know his skills will be essential to guiding our city as we experience continued growth and transformation through the City’s Strategic Plan,” Albemarle Mayor Ronnie Michael said.
As city manager, Clark will oversee day to day operations and the city’s $83 million budget. Day to day operations of the city include an electric system, water and wastewater system, landfill facility, public housing department, parks and recreation department, police department, fire department and other traditional city departments.
Clark is a native of North Carolina, growing in Marion, just east of Asheville.
Clark is a 1990 graduate of Appalachian State University holding an undergraduate degree in community and regional planning. He also obtained a master’s degree in public administration from Appalachian State in 2005.
Clark is married with two adult children who also live in North Carolina. He will begin his duties as city manager on Aug. 5.
Clark fills the position vacated when Michael Ferris retired in February. Assistant City Manager Darren Rhodes has served in an interim role since then.
