PEEKING INTO THE PAST: Billy McRae

Billy McRae was born in 1966 in Lumberton. He attended Lumberton High School, where he played basketball and football. McRae graduated in 1984 and then joined the United States Army. During his nine years in the military, he served in Korea and in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. From 1996 until 2005 McRae worked for the city of Charlotte. In early 2006, he was hired as the director of the E.E. Waddell Community Center in Albemarle. For the past 17 years, McRae has worked to arrange and offer countless programs for the community. His dedication and hard work has meant a great deal to the people of Albemarle. Billy has been a great friend to the Stanly County Historical Society. We have held several programs at the Waddell Center, and he has always been willing to help with whatever is needed to make the programs successful. Thanks, Billy, for all that you do. We look forward to working with you again in the future.
