The race for the seat in the North Carolina General Assembly House District 67 received a new candidate recently.

Cody Huneycutt announced on his Facebook page his candidacy for the N.C House District representing Stanly and Montgomery counties.

Huneycutt has worked for eight years as a staff member for the Assembly, including working with current officeholder Rep. Wayne Sasser.

His candidacy, he said, was “based on the conviction to continue to serve this district in the most positive, impactful way I can.”

In his statement, Huneycutt said he has “learned how to use common-sense approaches in collaboration with others to come up with solutions to help our communities and preserve our freedoms.”

Issues Huneycutt said he has worked on included “cutting taxes, promoting policies to reduce the role of big government and securing funds that were directly invested in Stanly and Montgomery counties.” He said he has assisted and advised on policy matters with many committees of the General Assembly, including finance, unemployment insurance, banking and revenue laws, health and appropriations.

Huneycutt said he still lives in Stanly and tends to his cattle farm, commuting to Raleigh for work.

“Having grown up in a farming family and being a cattle farmer myself, I understand firsthand the importance of conserving our farmlands and easing burdens on farmers,” Huneycutt said. “We can not expect affordable groceries when housing developments are being planted where crops have always been.”

The candidate also said he will “fight to bring good paying jobs to our district” and “continue to advocate for increasing ease of access to healthcare and enhance our education system.”

County commissioner Brandon King had already announced he would run for this position. Sasser has not confirmed with the SNAP whether he will seek reelection.
