The most recent executive order from North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has increased attendance capacity for high school athletics, so Stanly County Schools will impose requirements for those wanting to attend games in person starting this week.

According to guidance from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, SCS Athletic Director Beverly Pennington released requirements for those attending games.

Middle and high schools will be expected to follow the latest guidance for spectator capacity, which has increased to 30 percent of the occupancy as determined by the venue’s fire code. Social distancing of six feet will still be required and members of the same household or those arriving together will be seated as a group six feet apart from other groups while also being asked to remain seated.

Spectators will also be required to wear a mask unless a person falls under the exceptions listed in Cooper’s Executive Order 195, which includes individuals:

• who can not wear a mask because of a medical or behavioral condition or disability;
• who are under 5 years old;
• who are actively eating or drinking;
• who are communicating with someone who is hearing impaired that requires the mouth to be visible;
• who is a child whose parent, guardian or responsible person has been unable to place a mask safely on said child’s face.

To manage the number of attendees to games, Stanly’s middle and high schools are using GoFan electronic ticketing. Purchase info and ticket availability are posted on each school’s individual website and social media accounts.
