Stanly commissioners accept grant funds for neighborhood revitalization

A new grant unanimously approved by Stanly County’s commissioners Monday night looks to help elderly and disabled residents to rehabilitate their homes.

The county received $750,000 from North Carolina Department of Commerce under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for neighborhood revitalization.

Funds must be used by counties to rehabilitate owner occupied housing for residents of low to moderate income who are elderly and/or disabled.

The funds are anticipated to rehabilitate at least 10 homes in the county.

Commissioners approved and appropriated the funds while authorizing County Manager Andy Lucas and Chairman Bill Lawhon to execute the funding approval document, grant agreement and a performance-based contract.
