Stanly County softball tournament honors coach, deputy

The Stanly County Public Service Charity Softball Tournament Championship Committee announced via Facebook that the winning team of each year’s tournament will receive the Jamie Shue Memorial Championship trophy.
Shue, who died March 1, 2017, was a 13-year veteran of the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a patrol deputy, K-9 handler and detective during his tenure. He was also as a member of the department’s Honor Guard and Special Response Team.
He was the coach/captain of the Stanly County Public Safety softball team that won this annual tournament’s championship all four years of the tournament’s original run from 2013-2016.
The Annual Stanly County Public Service Charity Softball Tournament (formally Stanly County Public Safety/Teacher’s Charity Softball Tournament) returns in October 2023 benefiting Toys For Tots. It is planned to be an annual fall tradition going forward.
