Efird wins county commissioner at-large race
Locust resident Scott Efird, running for Stanly County commissioner at-large, defeated Jann Lowder Tuesday night. He received 5,524 votes (67.77 percent) to Lowder’s 2,627 (32.23 percent).
Efird, who previously served on the board of commissioners from 2014 through 2018, carried 22 of 23 precincts and won the early vote by a count of 1,940 to 847.
“It’s humbling,” Efird said after he learned of the results. “I know it’s corny, but I love Stanly County, it’s my home county. I just want to do the best for the folks of the county.”
Efird, who is Locust planning director, is looking forward to working with people on the county level, including County Manager Andy Lucas and his staff.
“I miss helping the county out as a whole,” he said.
Lowder could not be reached for comments.
The results are unofficial but will be fully determined during the official canvas on Friday, March 13.
