BADIN NEWS: Juneteenth celebration will have two days of activities

All ages are invited to sign up this month for the Summer Reading Program “All Together Now” or any time before July 31. Earn a Brag Tag for every hour of reading, up to 10 hours.

Badin Library will have special Thursday summer programs at 3:30 p.m. June 15, 22 and 29. Storytime and Crafts will continue the second and fourth Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Palestine UMC

The PUMC Women will make Chrismons in the church basement June 7, 14 and 28.

Palestine Pals will meet for lunch and fellowship at 11:30 a.m. June 13 at Rosebriar Restaurant.

Palestine’s Peanut Butter and Jelly Summer Food Program needs at least four volunteers every week between June 11 and Aug. 6 for Sunday food deliveries to sponsored families.

A signup sheet is available at Sunday worship. Check Palestine UMC’s Facebook link for a list of items needed. Monetary donations are accepted.

Kids ages three and up are invited to “camp out at VBS on June 23-24 and learn s’more about Jesus” at Palestine UMC, 36414 Palestine Road. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. June 23. The evening session will last until 8 p.m. Saturday’s session runs 9 a.m. to noon and includes breakfast.

Better Badin

Volunteers and visitors are encouraged to attend Better Badin’s regular meeting, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Badin Baptist Church.

Town Council

Council will have a planning session at 6:30 p.m. June 7.
Council’s regular meeting is 7 p.m. June 13, preceded by a public hearing at 6:30, to gain input about Spruce Street parking. Input about the FY 2023-24 town budget will be received at 6:45 p.m. All sessions are at Town Hall.


Everyone in the community is invited to take part in Badin’s 4th Annual Juneteenth Independence Day celebration, a national holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in America. Thanks to Mecca Gramling and her team, a two-day event is planned for 3-8 p.m. June 17-18 in West Badin Park on Sherman Street. It includes an inspirational program, kids activities, inflatables, live music, free food, vendors and more to engage families and Badin residents.

Community VBS

Children and adults are invited to “Hero Hotline VBS” 6-8:30 p.m. June 19-23 and 10 a.m. June 24.

Five Badin churches are hosting this event at Shiloh Baptist Church, 39209 Wright Road, New London.
