Pfeiffer falls to Lynchburg, returns to action Thursday

The Pfeiffer University men’s basketball team nearly came back from a 14-point deficit in the second half but visiting Lynchburg outlasted the Falcon comeback bid in an 85-76 win over Pfeiffer on Dec. 17 in Merner Gym.

The Hornets (3-6) led 47-33 at the 18:30 mark but allowed the Falcons to trim the cushion to 54-52 after a Ty Black (Charlotte, N.C.) 3-pointer at the 13:14 mark.

Lynchburg again responded by building the lead once again, this time taking a 79-69 lead at 4:15.

Pfeiffer once again rallied, this time cutting the lead to 79-76 on a Clayton Robinson (Charlotte, N.C.) jumper with 2:34 left. Lynchburg would then close the game on a 6-0 run and held Pfeiffer scoreless the rest of the way in taking the 85-76 nonconference win.

Pfeiffer (2-6) had five players reach double-figures, with Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) leading the way with 15 points. Alex Cunningham (Greenwood, S.C.) followed with 13 points while Daymon Beckwith Jacksonville, N.C.) contributed 12. M.J. Armstrong (Gastonia, N.C.) and Black would each score 10 to round out Falcons.

Lynchburg’s Elijah Davis would lead all scorers with 17 points in the win.

The Falcons will return to play on Thursday with a home non-conference game against Mid-Atlantic Christian. Tipoff from Merner is scheduled for 7 p.m.
