Grant deadline for artist grant approaches

The Arts Council of Moore County is now accepting applications for the Artist Support Grant (ASG) available to individual artists, including artists residing in Stanly County. Offered through a partnership with the North Carolina Arts Council, the deadline at 5 p.m. Oct. 13, will be here soon.

An in-person grant workshop will be offered on Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Moore County Arts Council Galleries (Campbell House, 482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines). To reserve a space for the workshop, call 910-692-2787 no later than Sept. 11. A virtual workshop has been recorded and is available at MooreArt.org.

This grant provides direct support to individual artists. ASG will fund such projects as professional and artistic development, creation of new work, improvements to business operations, or bring work to new audiences.

Last year, $15,800 was awarded to the following artists: Sean Bergesen of Moore County, Richard Cutright of Stanly County, Vanessa Grebe of Moore County, Susan Lackey of Stanly County, Kelly Martin of Moore County, Desmond McRae of Moore County, Eric Wells of Union County, and Sydney Williams of Montgomery County.

To be eligible, you must be an individual artist (or small, unincorporated group of collaborating artists), not enrolled in a degree or certificate program, at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien, and reside (for at least 1 year) in Anson, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Stanly or Union counties. Awards range from $500 to $3,000, and funded projects must occur between Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024. ASG is not a matching grant and 50% of the funds may be used for artist fees.

Artists at any stage of their careers may apply for a grant in all disciplines, such as visual art, music, film, writing, theatre, and dance. Types of fundable projects include anything that will help you advance in your art career, the creation of new art, purchase of equipment and materials, and professional development workshops.

Grant applications are also available for download at http://www.MooreArt.org. The Moore County Arts Council will also email or mail applications upon request. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 13.
