Albemarle Rotary Club presents scholarships

The Albemarle Rotary Club has awarded scholarships to eligible high school seniors in Stanly County.

An interview team comprised of George Crooker, Tonya Judge, Eric Johnson and Robert Stonestreet considered 14 applicants and narrowed the selection to eight. Each scholarship winner has a check mailed to her college for $1,000 and a second check of $1,000 follows for the second semester.

Funds for the scholarships were acquired through fundraising activities including the annual Rotary golf tournament.
This year’s awards go to: Reese Whitley of South Stanly; Emma Brown of South Stanly; Layla Simpson of South Stanly; Yelka Mercado Lopez of Stanly Early College; Catie Clayton of Stanly Early College; Graylin Olivieri of Albemarle High; Melah Melton of Gray Stone Day and Lindsay Poplin of North Stanly High.

Six of these recipients were able to be at the Albemarle Rotary Club meeting on June 8 and shared their plans for college and beyond.

The Albemarle Rotary Club meets weekly on Thursdays at noon at the Magnolia Room of Atrium Health Stanly. Visitors are welcome.
