On Tuesday afternoon, Stanly County Schools announced on its Facebook page the changing to remote learning for third-grade students at Norwood Elementary.

The post on the SCS page stated the decision came because of close contact between the students who were present last Wednesday and Thursday with a staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19.

A quarantine period starts immediately for the students who will transition to remote learning to start Wednesday through Oct. 9. Remote learning packets may be picked up at the school by parents Wednesday at a box located at the school’s front entrance, the post read.

They will also provide two meals for each student through the rider line each school day from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

“Stanly County Schools share your frustrations that our students and staff cannot be physically present on our campus. However, the safety and well-being of all our students and staff must remain our highest priority,” the post read.

A letter to the school’s third-grade students and families from the Stanly County Health Department, which SCS included with its post, said students must quarantine themselves from others including after school or remote learning programs, daycare centers, athletic games and more.

The letter further advised parents to have students tested six days after their last contact with the person who tested positive.
