Three Rivers Quilters Guild to ‘air quilts’
The Stanly County Historical Society and Three Rivers Quilters Guild will team up for “Airing of the Quilts,” a quilt trunk show, 1-4 p.m. April 17 at the Snuggs House, 112 N. Third St., Albemarle.
In the historic setting of the 1852 Isaiah W. Snuggs and Freeman-Marks houses, the show will feature quilts by members of the Three Rivers Quilters Guild and a Civil War era quilt collection of the Stanly County Museum.
Airing quilts outside has a long tradition in America beginning in colonial times. Early European settlers would mark the beginning of spring by airing quilts outside following heavy use during the winter season.
In the event of inclement weather, the free show will be rescheduled.
