LOCUST/STANFIELD NEWS: West Stanly Christian Ministries will have food drive

Food Drive

West Stanly Christian Ministries will have its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Log Barn at 101 W. Stanly St., Stanfield.

Sarah White writes the Locust News for the SNAP.

They will accept non-perishable food items and monetary donations. Just pull up at the Barn and someone will assist in taking your donations. The ministry will distribute these donations to local families in need. You can contact Nick Hathcock at 704-201-7512 for more information and questions.

City of Locust Christmas Tree

Please join us Thursday as we kick off the holiday season in Locust. Watch as we light our brand new Christmas tree, shop from some local artisan vendors and enjoy food from a food truck or visit a town center restaurant. The Grinch will be there for pictures as well.

Voter Photo ID

There is an opportunity to obtain a free voter photo ID card 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at the Locust Community Building. Another opportunity will be 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 30 at West Stanly Senior Center.

Please contact Stanly County Board of Elections for more information at 704-986-3647 or votestanlycountync.gov.

Leaf Pick–Up for City

City of Locust has set dates of Nov. 18, Dec. 9 and Jan. 13 for leaf pickup. There will be two options this season. You can use large paper bags to be set at curbside.

Or you can do leaf burritos. Leaves may be placed on a tarp and folded in “burrito” style, covered by the tarp at the curbside. These tarps may be used to enclose loose leaves in piles at curbside. The tarps must be able to be lifted by one person. No plastic bags will be collected.

The leaf pick up service provider will not take uncovered leaves piled at the roadside. Their equipment does not allow for vacuuming or collecting wet leaves. No brush, leaves only.

Paper bags are available at Locust City Hall while supplies last.

Kid’s Night Out

City of Locust Parks and Recreation invites kids ages 5-14 to join for a night of fun 6-10 p.m. Dec. 1.

Locust will provide pizza and drinks. Depending on the weather, we may also go to the playground at Jeff Shelton Memorial Park, located beside the Locust Community Building.

Make sure to send a water bottle and have your kids wear shoes that are appropriate for outdoor play. You may also send a towel or blanket for your child to sit on for the movie.
The cost is $15 for the first child and $10 for each additional child, with an additional $5 non-resident fee per child for those living outside of Locust city limits.

Register at https://locustnc.recdesk.com/Community/Program/Detail by Nov. 29.
