New voting software to be tested by Stanly Board of Elections
The Stanly County Board of Commissioners heard a presentation last week regarding new software to be used by the county’s Board of Elections.
Elections Director Kim Blackwelder presented to the board a preliminary resolution passed by the Board of Elections March 2 to purchase EVS version 5.2.4.0 voting system.
The software works with the current DS 200 high-speed precinct scanner and the AutoMARK Ballot marking device used by the county.
Blackwelder said the software is an upgrade and does not require new hardware. The board will conduct a simulated election April 6 to test the new system.
Should the test be successful, Blackwelder said the Board of Elections will apply for state approval and come back to commissioners at the April 19 meeting for their approval.
The cost of the software is $3,694.
