Scout earns Eagle honor, enhances Stanfield playground

Colin Talero, a member of the BSA Troop 202 and a resident of Stanfield, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offers. In 2019, eight percent of all Scouts BSA earned the Eagle Scout rank.

Colin, 18, who just graduated from West Stanly School, earned 40 merit badges in Troop 202. Twenty-one are required to earn the Eagle Scout award.

For his final project he and his fellow Troop 202 scouts removed the dilapidated wooden pirate ship on the Stanfield Elementary School playground and replaced it with a safe play area made from recycled tractor tires.

Troop 202 honored Colin with a ceremony on June 8 at Mission Church in Locust.
Colin has been on a number of Scouting trips and will hike through Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this summer for 11 days with Troop 202. He has also been backpacking with the Troop to Yosemite National Park in California and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Troop 202 meets on Tuesday nights and charters out of Locust Presbyterian Church. The scouts have been active in the community through The Big Serve, picking up trash along Running Creek Road through the Adopt-A-Highway program and volunteering at West Stanly Christian Ministries.
