History Center to host Halloween Family  Fun Fest

The Stanly County History Center will host a Halloween Family Fun Fest 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Children’s author Susan Pless will give readings from her book, “SCARY-O-TYPED!,” a rhyming, spooky story of kindness and friendship for all ages.

This children’s picture book follows a brave trick-or-treater on Halloween night through the creaky doors of a house rumored to be haunted by monsters.

Pless, who is from Concord, has been published in Turtle Magazine, Your Big Backyard, Boys #39; Quest, Children’s Playmate, Ladybug, and Ignite the Spark Publications (Volume 1 and 2).

“SCARY-O-TYPED!” was illustrated by her daughter, Hanna Smith.
Smith created the art by sketching the story in a storyboard, scanning the sketches into a computer and then coloring them in Photoshop.

Besides Pless being on hand, there will be numerous other activities.
There will be Halloween themed cookies and frosting for children and adults to decorate. There will also be Halloween bingo and other games with prizes, a ghost rocket STEM activity and spooky artifacts (like the mysterious gravestone with a skull and crossbones found in the old courthouse before demolition).

Call 704-986-3777 for more information.

The History Center is at 157 N. 2nd St. in downtown Albemarle.
