West Stanly Players near opening night
The West Stanly Players will present their annual spring production on May 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11 in the WSP Theatre at West Stanly High School. This year the Players present the comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields.
The play follows a theatre group in London who attempt to put on a murder mystery but anything and everything goes wrong. It combines elements of the interactive murder-mysteries the players are known for with The Three Stooges and Carol Burnett style slapstick comedy.
The ill-fated group includes first-time director Christine, played by senior Lauren Bucholz; dashing leading man Robert, played by senior Elliott Ecenbarger; inexperienced actor Denise, played by senior Eileen McLary; femme fatale Sandra, played by senior Macy Preslar; newcomer and overactor Max, played by junior Lawson Smith; classically trained actor Jonathon, played by junior William High; overworked stage manager Annie, played by senior Mia Jamar; and disgruntled sound and lighting tech Taylor, played by senior Raegan Sharpe.
The evening also features the pre-show interactive murder-mystery “Murder at Rutherford House.” This audience participation play puts the actors in the aisles with the audience and makes them part of the performance.
The show stars seniors Makaleigh Lowder, Bradley Lambert and Abigale Ecenbarger, juniors Sarah Owen, Joey Coley and Garrett Burris, sophomores Peyton Ritchie and Isabel Lowery and freshman Boston Mullins. Sophomores Wilson Kippes and Alistair Conley round out the ensemble as the clueless crew.
“The Play That Goes Wrong” runs at 7:30 p.m. May 3, 4, 10 and 11 and 2:30 p.m. May 5. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and $15 for reserved seating. For tickets, please April Tucker at 704-791-3200.
