Stanly runners compete at 1A/2A indoor track meet

West Stanly’s James Shue made history with his efforts at the recent NCHSAA 1A/2A indoor track state meet.

Shue was one of several runners from Stanly schools who competed at the finals.

Men’s Results

In the 3,200-meter run which Shue won, South’s Joshawa Huneycutt was sixth with a 10:19.46, while Shue’s teammate, Carson Wells, placed 11th in 10:49.83.

The West men’s 4×400 meter relay team finished fifth in 3:51.17.

Women’s Results

West’s Onii Bivens earned a bronze medal in the long jump with a distance of 17-foot-1, finishing third. Robbinsville’s Zoie Shuler took the state title with a 17-7.5 jump.

Bivens took a silver medal in the 300-meter dash with a 42.65, just behind Pine Lake Prep’s Rylee Hegedus (41.81 seconds). She also finished eighth in the 55-meter dash (7.49 seconds).

West’s Nariah Furr, finished 19th in long lump with a 13-9 effort.

Colt runner Natalie Almond earned a bronze medal in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:14.16, beating the next competitor by .1 seconds. Lauren Tolbert of Highland Tech was first with a 2:58.68.

Almond also placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:04.92.

The Colts’ 4×800 meter relay team finished 10th, while the 4×400-meter relay squad placed seventh with a 4:38.31.
