Stanly men’s tennis players qualify for state finals

One North Stanly tennis player and a doubles’ duo from West Stanly recently qualified to play in the state finals.

Ameno Morgan, a junior at North, improved to 19-0 on the season as an individual, having not lost a set this season. Morgan was the Yadkin Valley Conference’s Player of the Year, while his head coach, Mike Towne, won YVC Coach of the Year.

Morgan will compete Friday at Ting Park in Holly Springs in the 2A state finals. His first-round opponent will be Ben Cuddington of North Johnston.

The Colts’ duo of Nate Barringer and Matthew Parker earned a trip to the 2A finals in the doubles’ tournament. The first round opponents for Barringer and Parker will be Greene Central’s Sam Avent and Nick Avent.

Parker, a senior, and Barringer, a junior, were 13-0 this season for the Colts.

As a team, West won the Rocky River Conference and reached the second round of the dual team playoffs, posting a 17-1 record this season.
